Ivy Bard

Came second in the I Am Writing Sci-Fi / Fantasy competition 2024

Ivy Bard is a queer author who writes about chaotic characters with questionable morals fighting internal demons, overcoming heartbreak, and finding love & joy in unexpected places.

In 2024, Ivy was one of the winners of the Write Hive Mentorship Competition and placed second in the I Am Writing SCI-FI / FANTASY Competition 2024, judged by Jo Fletcher and Ian Drury.
When not writing, Ivy works in IT management and loves drawing their favourite characters.

What was the inspiration behind the story you entered?

Blackblade was inspired by fantasy classics, D&D adventures, and my love for villainous characters doing the right things for the wrong reasons.

How did you celebrate after hearing you came second?

This announcement came so unexpectedly, and at such a busy time in my life that my only celebration was a very chill game night with my partner. I want to get a character art commission as a celebratory gift for myself.

What is next for you?

More books to write! In the last few weeks, I finished an early draft of a sci-fi romance, and started planning my next story, a speculative thriller that I’m going to draft before going back to edit the sci-fi one. I have plenty of ideas and not enough time to write them all.
